I am using a 16"round stretched canvas.I add some house paint from a squeeze bottle and spread the paint with my large silicone spatula around the edges of the canvas. I put down an extremely thin layer or "Pillow" of paint mostly in the center of the canvas. I have used a Folk art color-shifting green-gold mixed with the same ingredients in the same proportions as the powdered pigments. The powdered colors I am using are Primary elements by color-arte. These colors in powder form and must be mixed to use them. I added the powders to a small amount of polycrylic to make them a liquid/paste. I then added 3 more parts (3/4)UNTINTED unshaken semi-gloss ( level 3 Base heaviest) house paint to the 1/4 polycrylic for each color. Almost any color can become a cell activator. I create a cell activator consisting of mixing 3/4 Floetrol to 1/4 paint the color of my choice. Colors were applied on top of an undiluted semi-gloss house paint pillow one on top of each other ( not necessary). The cell activator was added on top of the colors as a catalyst after the colors. I used a large piece of acetate to swipe the colors starting from the cell activator. The artwork was tilted after the cells began to appear almost immediately. All my colors are stored and mixed in bottles or containers with lids for ease of continued use and stirred again before each use. I use a propane torch is cautiously passed over the surface of the canvas to release any air in the paint that might result in bubbles forming while the artwork dries or leaving pockmarks if left to pop on their own. Warming the paint will also often encourage patterns to emerge because the paint in combination with the Floetrol used in my cell activator encourages cells to form.
To create the pearlescent effects seen in most of my artworks. I use "Golden's" Iridescent pearl "Fine" added to colors. By "eye" until I am pleased with what I see.
Every day I learn new things. I will never stop experimenting, and I am happy to share what I discover with you.
