J Geils' 1958 Gibson ga55V Amp Cabinet.....The Termite's Revenge

J Geils' 1958 Gibson ga55V Amp Cabinet.....The Termite's Revenge A viewer in California bought a Gibson ga55V amp from an auction of the estate of J. Geils. When the amp arrived, the amplifier itself worked well, but the cabinet had apparently suffered severe termite damage during storage. At the owner's request, I undertook a restoration of the damaged wood parts, without undoing any of the original signs of age and normal use. It was quite a challenge, and I hope you (and the owner) will be pleased with the outcome.

In addition, with KC's help, I will open all the parts to build a Heathkit HiFi amp, which was sent by a generous viewer. Finally, I will show you a recent hot rod update in which the rusty body of the 1930 Ford coupe is coated with a satin UV-resistant urethane finish to protect and preserve it.
