Metal Detecting: Searching For And Discovering A New Colonial Era Homestead

Metal Detecting: Searching For And Discovering A New Colonial Era Homestead In this metal detecting adventure, Todd (of Appalachian History Detectives) and I start our day at a colonial era homesite that we have recently detected and found many old colonial copper coins and buttons. I soon decide that the pickens are slim so set forth on a long hike up the mountain valley in search of any other colonial era homesites that may be in the area. I find an old roadbed or trace and many strange rock formations in the forest that I cannot identify as being colonial or Indian in nature. I begin to get hints that I may be close to an old homestead and soon find the old well and house foundation. With the artifacts we recovered, the home seems to date from the late 1700's to possibly the very early 1800's, much like the first homesite we discovered and the era of the nearby colonial graveyard.
