Australia won’t run out of food but ‘we might run out of electronic goods’

Australia won’t run out of food but ‘we might run out of electronic goods’ Chief Executive of the Logistics Bureau Rob O’Byrne says “we are not about to run out of food” because around 90 per cent of the products in “our grocery stores (are) locally made anyway”.

As the spread of coronavirus increases globally, ‘panic buying’ has hit Australian consumers, with many people rushing to supermarkets to purchase staples such as toilet paper, pasta, and now rice.

Mr O’Byrne said the panic buying of toilet paper began because it “went around social media that 40 per cent of our toilet paper was made in China and suddenly people panicked”.

He explained to Sky News host Chris Smith due to the influence of social media phenomena like this “just snowball”.

He did warn while Australia won’t run out of food, “we might run out of electronic goods and maybe some clothing”.
