Bangkok Airport Screens Passengers For Coronavirus

Bangkok Airport Screens Passengers For Coronavirus Passengers arriving at the airport for Bangkok, Thailand, today (March 4) are screened for signs of the coronavirus.

Staff at the Suvarnabhumi Airport have set up 'Thermoscan' points to detect any tourists arriving who have fevers or high temperatures.

Those arriving from high risk countries were being monitored extra carefully for the COVID-19 virus, said airport director Kittipong Kittikachorn.

Five checkpoints for arrivals and departures were in place inside the airport. Staff were also using digital thermometers to test passengers.

The airport boss added: ''The coronavirus has spread rapidly throughout the world so we are taking strict precautions at the airport.

''There are 'pit stop' areas for those travelling on flights from risky countries. If passengers arrive at the airport with temperatures exceeding 37.5 degrees or showing signs of the virus, they are immediately given medical attention away from other people.''

Airport cleaners have also increased the amount of work they do by disinfecting areas that people touch regularly, such as hand rails and check-in screens.

The coronavirus has spread across the world after it started in Wuhan, China, last November. There have been 94,347 cases and 3,222 deaths by March 4, 2020.
